Preserving Colors
This page is dedicated to everything you need to know about preserving your blooms. Here, you'll find the best tips and tricks to keep the colors of your pressed flowers vibrant and long-lasting. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner, I've got you covered with all the information you need to create stunning pressed flowers that will last a lifetime.
Quick Pressing
Press flowers as soon as possible after harvesting to retain their vibrant colors. If you are using flowers from your garden or a store, press them soon after you pick them. If you are picking wildflowers, bring your flower press with you. Quick pressing helps prevent the natural fading that occurs over time.
Even Drying
When you place your fresh blooms on your lining paper, ensure the flowers are evenly spaced. Flowers should not overlap. Make sure you arrange flowers about half an inch away from the edge of the drying plate so they can press evenly. This promotes consistent drying, preventing uneven color loss.
Absorbent Blotting Paper
Placing your flowers between our blotting paper and the lining paper will help absorb moisture during pressing. Swapping out your paper after three days for larger flowers will help maintain the pH balance, preventing discoloration.
Avoid Direct Sunlight
After you place your flower press in the zip lock bag, store it in a cool, dark place. Try not to keep it near bright windows, and definitely not outside. Exposure to direct sunlight can cause colors to fade more rapidly, especially in delicate flowers.
