Flower Press Kit: Crafting Pressed Flower Jar Lanterns

Updated: Mar 3

I was giddy when my sister asked me to create a pressed flower jar for her votives. I knew this would be a wonderful craft combining pressed flowers' beauty with tea lights' warm glow. It was so simple to make these, and I know I will add more to my collection. Here's how to make them:

**Materials You'll Need:**

- Glass jars (recycled or purchased)

- Pressed flowers and leaves

- Mod Podge or clear-drying craft glue

- Foam brush or paintbrush

- Tea lights or battery-operated LED tea lights

- Twine or ribbon (optional)

- Craft scissors

- Newspaper or plastic sheet (to protect your work surface)

**Instructions:**

Prepare Your Pressed Flowers:

+Make sure you have a selection of pressed flowers and leaves ready. These can be from your own garden or wildflowers you've pressed using a flower press kit. This is the perfect way to use some smaller pressed flowers you've been saving up.

Clean the Glass Jars

- Ensure the glass jars are clean and dry. Remove any labels or sticky residue.

Design Your Lantern:

- Before applying the pressed flowers, plan your design. Decide where you want to place each flower and leaf on the jar. Or you can just go with the flow, whichever is the best creative method.

Apply Mod Podge:

- Lay out newspaper or a plastic sheet to protect your workspace.

- Using a foam brush or paintbrush, apply a thin, even layer of Mod Podge to the area on the jar where you want to attach the pressed flowers.

Attach the Pressed Flowers:

- Gently press the pressed flowers and leaves onto the Mod Podge, arranging them as you planned. Be delicate to avoid tearing the flowers. You can grab the back of the flower by the tip of the paintbrush to apply; this was really helpful.

Seal with Mod Podge:

- Once your design is in place, apply another thin layer of Mod Podge over the top of the pressed flowers. This will seal them and give the lantern a lovely, glossy finish.

Let It Dry:

- Allow the Mod Podge to dry completely. This may take a few hours.

Add Twine or Ribbon (Optional):

- If you like, you can tie twine or ribbon around the neck of the jar for extra decoration. This will also help if you have little ones because the glass will become hot to the touch once the votive (s) are lit.

Place a Tea Light Inside:

- Insert a tea light or battery-operated LED light into the jar once the Mod Podge is dry.

Light Your Lantern:

- Light the tea light and enjoy the beautiful glow of your Pressed Flower Glass Jar Lantern. I especially like scented mini votives right now that add a touch of the season!

These lanterns make charming centerpieces, home decor, or even thoughtful gifts. They bring the beauty of pressed flowers and the warmth of candlelight into your space. Follow along for more pressed flower crafts!
