When talking to someone about flower pressing, one of the questions I often get is, "What do you even do with all the flowers you press?"
That is a fair question. To be honest, I probably asked that question myself when I first started. However, after learning the art, I realized that the possibilities for pressed flower crafts are limitless.
And with pressed flowers and the art of pressing flowers becoming increasingly popular, the DIY craft idea list gets longer and longer and more inspiring. For the month of February, I'll be going over some of my favorite ways to use pressed flowers, starting with this beautiful, ethereal pressed flower mirror.
For this DIY project, I answer another popular question, "Can you press a ton of the same flower?" Yes, and yes. I pressed a ton of phlox over the summer (like a lot), and they have been featured in a lot of my recent projects since then.
Here's a simple way to take some of your leftover or overstock flowers and turn them into a one-of-a-kind piece of home decor.
Here are all the deets:
The great thing about this craft is you can do it on any mirror size. You can do this on a giant mirror or a small one like this one. It all depends on how many pressed flowers you have and what you'll use the mirror for.
Round mirrors can be found at any craft, dollar, or online store. Here are some of my favorite options from Amazon.
I swear by Mod Podge. I use it for SO many of my pressed flower crafts. It can be used as a glue, a sealer, and a finish. It will be one of your go-to craft supplies for pressed flower crafts.
Mod Podge comes in different finishes (including glitter if that's your thing) and multiple size options perfect for crafting on the go.
You will also need a paintbrush. You can use a bristle or foam brush based on your preference.
+A Flower Press - Pressing flowers is quite therapeutic and a sustainable craft I love. I use my pressed flowers for crafts like these, resin art, gifts, frames, art, and everything in between.
This Flower Press has everything you need to start pressing flowers and an extensive complimentary Flower Pressing Handbook that gives beginners literally everything
they need to understand the ins and outs of this craft.
Instructions:
+Plan out your arrangement. I love to place the flowers on my medium prior to gluing to avoid having to go back and fix things.
+Take height, flower composition, and colors into account when arranging.
+Layer as many flowers as you want (you can have three flowers or fifty; it's really up to your design).
+Prep any flowers prior (trim any unwanted leaves or stems).
+Start in the middle and work your way to the edges. This will help you know how many more flowers you need to apply.
+Apply a small amount of Mod Podge to the bottom of the pressed flower.
+With hands or tweezers, very gently place the pressed flower on the mirror so the glue adheres.
+Continue this process until all your flowers have been applied.
+Once all flowers have been applied, go back over and apply a small coat of Mod Podge to each pressed flower. On this project, I didn't like seeing the glue residue on the mirror, so I did not apply a total coat to the mirror.
+You can hang your mirror, put it on a shelf, or use it as a candle holder.
You can find this DIY, all the materials, and so many more on my Amazon storefront.
